In this post, I'm sharing a classic Besan ke Laddu recipe—simple, authentic, and oh-so-delicious. Perfect for festivals, special occasions, or whenever you're in the mood for something sweet and traditional.

besan ke laddu

Ingredients (Makes about 15-18 laddus)

2 cups besan (gram flour)

1/2 cup ghee (clarified butter)

3/4 to 1 cup powdered sugar (adjust to taste)

1/4 tsp cardamom powder (elaichi)

2 tbsp chopped nuts (cashews, almonds, or pistachios – optional)

First, roast the besan.
Add the ghee to a heavy-bottomed pan or kadhai that has been heated. Add the besan once it has melted. Roast slowly while maintaining a low flame. This stage, which takes 15 to 20 minutes, is very important. Stir continuously until the besan emits ghee, turns golden brown, and takes on a fragrant aroma. Here, there are no quick cuts!

Tip: Use the back of a spoon or spatula to gently press out any clumps of besan.

2. Allow it to cool.
After roasting, remove the mixture from the fire and allow it to cool fully. This is crucial since adding sugar while the liquid is still hot can cause it to become runny.

3. Include Flavor and Sugar
Add cardamom powder and powdered sugar when it is cooled. Stir well to distribute the sugar evenly. If you are using chopped nuts, add those.

4. Form the Laddus
Shape a little part of the mixture into round balls by pressing it firmly in your palm. Add a spoonful of melted ghee or reheat the mixture a little if it seems too dry.
